are the defective coolant bypass valves only in North American-made covers? what about 2019 RAV4s from Japan? i had my RAV4 since then with no problems or "Engine Maintenance Required" message.

Hmm.. as far as I know the coolant bypass valves are from the same manufacturer whether you get your RAV4 in the US or in Japan.

Maybe it's better to watch out for temperature fluctuations, unusual noises, other symptoms of coolant issues..

But they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I think they all have the same manufacturer from japan. As long as nothing is showing up and it's not acting up or you don't feel anything odd then you're good to go. But first symptom should already be an alarm.

Naaah, the defective ones are just usually associated with North America as I think we are more populous here but technically it's also in Canada. Japan also but just a lower incidence of it maybe due to different suppliers or specs? Don't we drive on the opposite road. Check your VIN if it's J then it's Japan.

Glad to hear that your RAV4 is running smoothly! From what I know, the coolant bypass valve problems mainly impact models made in North America. If yours is made in Japan and hasn't had any issues, you're likely in the safe zone. Still, it's always a good idea to stay vigilant and keep an eye on things, just to be on the safe side

From what I've seen, the coolant bypass valve issue mostly affected North American-made RAV4s, particularly certain model years cos Japanese made 2019 RAV4s don't seem to have that problem,
