rav4 coolant valve lawsuit update

looks like things are finally heating up a class action lawsuit was just filed over the defective coolant bypass valve on 5th gen rav4s if you've dealt with that annoying engine maintenance required warning you know how frustrating this can be and dealers charging around a grand to fix it just makes it worse it's crazy how these things can fail out of nowhere at random mileage hopefully this lawsuit pushes for a proper fix or at least some kind of compensation anyone else here been hit with this problem

5 th gen owner here and your post got me thinking can you give me some more info about the problem? i haven geoten any warning on the dash so is this a tickingtime bomb or its not for all rav4?

yep, saw that lawsuit coming a mile away, that coolant bypass valve issue is a joke, fails at random, triggers that dreaded "engine maintenance required" warning, and then toyota wants you to cough up a grand for a fix that shouldn't even be necessary, pfft..total cash grab honestly. Hopefully, this lawsuit forces their hand and they actually take responsibility

Well, it's about damn time for this. Where did you read this? That issue has been there a long time and they're only taking action now. Whatever and however you see this, it still pretty much looks like justice to me. Hope people get compensated for their inconveniences.

yup about time someone did something. Honestly though, even if they win the lawsuit, it's not gonna magically fix all the ones already on the road. I've been thinking, maybe it's smarter to just swap in the aluminum aftermarket valve and be done with it, has anyone here actually installed one before? curious if it's worth it over waiting for Toyota to maybe offer a fix years from now.
