Improving temperature control

Lately I've noticed my toyota rav4 takes a while to warm up, and once it's hot, the temp still fluctuates a bit more than I'd expect, it gets worse in traffic and uphill slopes, its not overheating thankfully, but definitely not as stable as it used to be, can anyone on here relate?, and can I improve temperature control, seen something about a temperature thermostat somewhere but I dont really know how it operates, but is it something that can pass as a good reco for this current issue?

Sounds like your thermostat is starting to stick or fail, it controls how quickly your engine warms up and keeps the temperature steady. If its not working right, your RAV4 might take longer to heat up and cause those temperature swings, especially in traffic or uphill. I think its time to replace your thermostat.

I'm not doubting your comment, but I had a friend of mine on his honda the cap wasn't sealing right and he was losing collant and had these symptoms, so I guess it doesn't hurt to check?
