I was just about to go to work in the morning, and just my luck! I found out my windshield was shattered. My 2019 Rav4 had been parked overnight, when I got in and shut my door the windshield shattered. I didn't have any cam, so no evidence that anyone or anything happened to it. Just me shutting the door after my daughter had shut the back door. Has anyone else had this happen? What do you think is happening here guys?

Honestly sounds weird that just shutting the door caused it unless the glass already had a crack or stress point maybe from temperature changes or debris hitting it before if it was parked overnight and nothing obvious hit it there's a good chance it was already compromised plus sometimes cheap aftermarket glass or poor installation can make it easier for this kind of thing to happen

thats crazy tho, i did some reserach for you, seems like spontaneous windshield breakage, possibly from a defect, stress fracture, or temperature change. Shutting the door might've just triggered it. some rav4s have had windshield issues, so check for TSBs. If insurance covers glass, I'd file a claim and have it inspected.

anytime man, you welcome and @InspectorLestrade these things do happen, shouldn't be so, but we cant make our own cars I guess, unless someone here is gonna start that, haha

In college, my roommate experienced a similar meltdown with his old Corolla. One chilly morning, he closed the driver's door a bit too forcefully, and suddenly, bam! there was a spiderweb crack spreading across the windshield. It turned out that a tiny chip from weeks before had finally decided to give in. We never expected it, and everything seemed okay right until that moment. Sometimes, it's the smallest crack that triggers the whole avalanche.

Ouch, @MoriartyBuddy, that’s rough. From what I’ve seen, a tiny chip or stress point usually causes this, and a normal door slam just sets it off. Did you get a chance to file a claim or get it checked?
